About Beacon New York

Beacon is a city in Dutchess County, with a population of 15,541 living in an area of 5 square miles.

Starting in the late 1990s, with the opening of one of the world's largest contemporary art museums Dia: Beacon, Beacon began to an artistic and commercial rebirth. New development continues to enlarge the city. Currently, the two largest planned projects are a waterfront hotel and conference center, and "The Rivers and Estuaries Center" on Dennings Point.

Beacon Open Studios is happening the weekend of May 2-4 from noon until 6pm. This city-wide celebration of Hudson Valley talent features 55 remarkable artists, working in all media, including painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelers, ceramicists, glass artists, multi-media and interdisciplinary artists. Artists who do not have studies rent U-Haul trucks and create their own pop-up installations in the back of the truck; they’re located at 45 Beekman Street This is a wonderful chance to get an inside peek at the workings of Beacon’s creative community and how they get their inspiration. It is free and open to everyone to come and enjoy this self-guided tour.

Beacon Barks Dog Parade

Mt Beacon PhotosBeacon NY Dog Parade - On Saturday, April 26, 2014, Beacon Barks will take place on Main Street in Beacon, NY starting at 10am. The event is Hudson Valley’s one and only dog parade celebrating the region’s animal shelters, rescue and welfare organizations. This fun event happens from the help of the Dutchess County SPCA and the team at the Beacon Barkery. Proceeds from the event benefit dog and animal not-for-profit organizations. The event is free and open to the public. Don’t forget to bring your dog, if you have one!
